Mahindra XUV700: Why ADAS Needs Recalibration After a Windshield Replacement

The Mahindra XUV700's ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) — features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking — rely on a forward-facing camera typically mounted at the top of the windshield, just behind the rearview mirror.

That camera is calibrated to a precise angle and position relative to the road ahead. Even a windshield replacement done correctly, with the exact same glass, can shift that camera's mounting position by a small amount — small enough to not be visible to the eye, but enough to throw off how the system interprets distance and lane position.

What this means in practice: after a windshield replacement, ADAS features can appear to work normally in casual testing, while actually misjudging distances or lane boundaries in real conditions. This isn't a defect in the new glass — it's an expected consequence of the camera's mounting reference changing, and it's the reason manufacturers require recalibration as standard procedure after any windshield work.

Static vs. dynamic calibration. Some XUV700 ADAS calibrations require a static procedure — using specific target boards positioned at exact distances in a controlled space. Others require dynamic calibration — driving the vehicle at a specific speed on a road with clear lane markings while the system self-calibrates. Which one applies depends on the exact system version, so this isn't something to guess at.

Warning signs of a miscalibrated system. Lane-keep assist that nudges the wheel when you're actually centered in the lane, adaptive cruise control that brakes later or earlier than expected, or a persistent ADAS warning light after glass work are all signs recalibration wasn't completed or didn't take.

If you've had windshield work done and haven't confirmed recalibration was performed, don't assume it's fine just because there's no warning light — some miscalibration doesn't trigger a fault code immediately.
